4th of July

7.04.2017

We celebrated the 4th of July over a few days since it was on a weekend this year. We went down to Coney Island Beach and played in the sun with the Sturgill family one day. I had taken the girls to the beach a week before and they LOVED it! They wanted to be in the water nonstop and jump over the waves. I was a little worried Charley would remember last summer when she was deathly scared of the ocean because a huge wave toppled her and Spencer into the water. She was so scared of the waves ever since. But this year she must have forgot because she loved going into the water and jumping over the waves. She even wanted to go into the deep end and swim a bit. It was so fun to see her be fearless and enjoy the ocean.
We had fun with Spencer making sand castles and swimming in the ocean. Coney Island is not the cleanest beach. There is glass and trash everywhere but it's a beach and it's only 30 minutes from our house so thats a plus. Then on the actual 4th of July day we had a ward BBQ at the church. The Young Women always put together an auction to raise money for girls camp so we bid on and bought a few yummy desserts and enjoyed being outside with friends. That evening we had a building BBQ up on our roof. We let the kids play in the pool and we grilled some yummy food and chatted with our neighbors. We feel so lucky to have good neighbors and we all get along really well. Since it's only 4 units and the bottom unit has their own backyard we really only share the roof with 2 other families which is nice. It was fun to chat with them and let the kids play since all the kids in the building go to daycare during the day and the girls don't really get to hang out with them.
Around bedtime, we went downstairs and put our girls to bed and then went back up on the roof to watch the Macy's fireworks. We have a great view of them over on the East River so we just sat up on our roof and watched. It was a perfect night:)
