July- a birth story and a new BABY!

7.03.2023

This month we had A LOT happen! Tate Ila was born, Charley had a birthday, Spencer had a birthday and we went to Cape Cod! It has been such a fun filled month and I am trying to savor and cherish every moment!

Tate's birth was always on a time crunch. Her due date was July 1st and Charley and Bergen needed to be on a plane on July 4th for Grandparent week so we were always hoping she would come on time or within a day. July 1st was our town fireworks at Waveny so we went to those since I was feeling good with no signs on labor. It was a fun night and I'm glad we were able to go as a family. On July 2nd I woke up around 6am with some hard contractions. I started to time them and they were about 10 minutes apart for an hour. At 7am I got up and took Jackie for a walk hoping they would start going. We walked about 2 miles but the contractions stopped so when I got back home we all went to church and I didn't feel much the rest of the day. After church we all went on a walk, I walked some stairs and that night I had took a nice long shower and had Spencer give me a foot rub. We really needed/wanted baby to come soon so we wouldn't have to change plans for the girls on the 4th. Luckily on July 3rd I woke up at 5am with hard contractions again. This time they lasted 2 hours and were consistently 10 minutes apart. Every 10 minutes when I would have one I would start my stopwatch and then slowly fall back asleep until 10 minutes had passed and I would have another hard contraction. After 2 hours they started getting to be 6, 7, and 8 minutes apart so I called my OB and she said to come to the hospital since it was my 5th baby. Matt Campbell came over to take the girls to his house and Spencer and I went to the hospital. They were still about 8 minutes apart so I was hoping they would get shorter as we were there but once we checked in the contractions started getting farther apart! They became 10 and 15 minutes apart. My Dr. checked me and I was 6cm dilated so she said to stay though. We got to the hospital around 9:30am. We waited and watched a show to pass the time. Around noon I got an epidural but the contractions were still about 10 minutes apart. My Dr. came and checked on my again around 2pm and she said I was 10 cm dilated! My water still hadn't broke and the epidural was SUPER strong! I couldn't feel anything. I couldn't feel when I would have a contraction or my legs. It was a weird feeling since with Jonny my epidural was pretty light. At one point I even asked if they could turn off the epidural since it was too strong and I couldn't feel anything. The nurse was hesitant since she didn't know when I would have baby so we kept it on. So the Dr. said she would break my water since I was fully dilated. I was a little bummed for her to do this since I wanted to fully go into labor by myself but since I was fully dilated and baby was ready to come she needed to break my water. Once she broke my water I started to push. I pushed about 5 or 6 times and Tate was born at 3:24pm. She weighed 6lb 13 oz and was 21in long! She had a full head of dark hair and right away they put her on my chest. It was such a special feeling having her on me! She was here! She arrived healthy and happy and fast! Our prayers had been answered and we had a sweet baby in our arms. She looked like Lenny and Charley when she was first born! Spencer left after Tate was born to get the girls and they came back around 6pm to meet their new baby sister. It was really special to have them all in the room. They all wanted a turn holding her and asking questions like why my tummy was still big and how she came out! :) Some names we came to the hospital with were Tate, Tatum, I liked Jovi and Teryn. Spencer suggest Ila for her middle name after my Grandma (my dad's mom) and I thought it was sweet. All the girls actually really like Ila too. We were hiking one day and Charley said she liked it and so did Bergen! I'm glad they liked Ila for her middle name. We always try to do a family name so it was perfect!

It took hours after she was born (around midnight) for me to feel my legs again! The epidural was the strongest one I have had. I didn't like that it was so strong! I couldn't walk to the bathroom by myself and had to have the nurse help me. My legs were like jello during labor too. The nurses had to each hold a leg while I pushed because they kept falling off the bed and stirrups where they put them. It was also a little hard to push because I couldn't feel anything! But she is here and that's all that matters!

After Tate was born they took us up to our room and Spencer left to get the girls from the Campbells. The girls were swimming at Waveny Pool and having a good time with them! They came back around 6pm and met Tate for the first time! It was so special for all of us to be together in the room. Everyone wanted to hold her. Charley was so sweet and quiet with her. Bergen loved holding her and rocking her back and forth. Lenny was just giddy and laughing while she held her and Jonny held her for about 30 seconds and then was on to another thing. Jonny is especially happy to be a big sister! When Spencer told her she was now a big sister she got all wide eyed and stood up on the bed and was SO happy! She loves being a big sister to Tate!

Tate is loved by so many! We got so many texts and dinners brought in to help us these first few weeks. Spencer is taking all of July off which is a HUGE help and I am in my bedroom this first week soaking in the snuggles and love with baby Tate. I am healing well and she is eating really good. Right when she came out she had a hard suck and started eating right away. Those reflexes are amazing to me!

Here is a picture of my Grandma Ila. Also a picture of Spencer and I the day we were engaged, July 3rd 2011! Here is also a picture of Gramma B with her five daughters just like me! I am the baby :)
