Christmas in New York!!!!

12.13.2016

I love all the Christmas festivities that happen in New York! We knew we were going to Washington for Christmas so we decided to get a head start on all the holiday buzz and do some of our favorite things around the city before we left. It was magical and beautiful and oh so fun! The girls helped me decorate our apartment (all 3 things we have to decorate) and then we made a list of things we wanted to do around the city. Luckily for us, this is our 4th winter in New York so we knew what was good and what was worth skipping. Here are a bunch of pictures of what we were up to in December! Some of our favorites: decorating sugar cookies, Spencer and I had a date night to go Christmas shopping. We went to Macy's on 34th street and got some goods. Spencer was looking for those delicious chestnuts from street vendors but we couldn't find any, so we got the caramelized almonds instead which are just as good! :) We went to Union Square Holiday Market and walked around getting the most yummy nutella and strawberry crepe and a few presents for family members. Then we walked a few blocks up to the flat iron building and checked out the new hammocks they have!
One night we made lots of yummy treats for neighbors and friends and since Spencer was out of town, just me and the girls delivered them. We went to about 8 houses and I ran to each of them. I think it was about an 8 mile run and the girls were so good through it all. We bundled up and went from house to house singing carols and delivering treats! Its as a lot of fun! I really love caroling to people and giving treats so it was a special night for me. The girls loved visiting everyone too and being able to give them a jar full of homemade granola.
One of our favorite things to do is visit Santa at the Macy's on 34th street. The whole 8th floor is decorated in "Santaland" and you get to walk through this whole land of the North Pole. It is really amazing and then at the end an elf comes and takes you to meet Santa. We went on a weekday morning and the lines weren't bad at all! Bergen was really afraid of Santa and so I had to hold her but Charley was excited to meet him and ask him for a watch for Christmas! :) The next night we visited Dyker Heights lights. This is also a favorite and so spectacular! There is a neighborhood in south Brooklyn that goes ALL out on the Christmas decorations! Like $10,000 each house all out! They have professional light installers come and deck out their houses and it is beautiful! One night we walked around with the girls to admire all the beautiful lights and nativities that were set out on everyones yard.
Our good friends, Megan and Donn invited us over for some cookie baking/decorating/eating! I actually went over for a girls baking party first and then once we had baked a few treats, Megan invited the girls to come over and have some pizza and decorate cookies! It was a fun day and the girls were on a sugar high! We absolutely love Megan and Donn! We became friends when we both lived in our Bergen apartment together but we have both moved to different apartments (still very close) and have stayed in touch and still get together once in a while for dinner! And the last few pictures are of our Stake Christmas Concert that we had. I was in charge of the hot chocolate bar and it was a lot of fun decorating and preparing it! It was a lot of work AND Spencer was out of town so it was busy with the girls, but a lot of people stepped in and helped which was nice! It was a beautiful concert and really got me in the Spirit of Christmas AND the hot chocolate recipe I made (from Pinterest) was delicious!!! It was a crock pot one with chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla... whats not to love?!
