The first two weeks with Jonny

1.28.2020

I was very lucky to be able to stay in my room for the first full week after having Jonny. I stayed in bed and the girls would take my food order and bring me breakfast, lunch and dinner in bed! They loved it and I loved it. Spencer took care of the girls and kept the house clean, did laundry, took Charley to school and everything else to keep the house in order while I stayed in bed and healed. It is always such a nice thing for me after having a baby to heal and relax in bed. I also think it really helps with my milk supply to not stress over other things around the house and really focus on connected with Jonny. I was able to play games with the girls on the bed, read lots of books with Lenny and hold sweet Jonny. The second week, Spencer had off of work as well so I still stayed in the apartment and did little walking as I could. It has helped immensely with healing!
For the most part the girls have been really good with her. I feel like going from 3 to 4 has been easier than 2 to 3. Lenny is already used to being apart of the pack so she has been pretty easy going with Jonny. She does grab her head and face sometimes but it's usually just to get attention and not really because she wants to hurt the baby. I often find her kissing Jonny's head in the rocker and one day she even read her books. Bergen LOVES holding Jonny! She will walk around with her and hold her a lot which is nice! She is really gentle with her and a big help. Charley kind of keeps her distance from Jonny. I think she is a little afraid of making a mistake or doing something wrong or that Jonny will cry. Charley is a rule follower and doesn't want to "break" any rules with the baby. She doesn't like to hold her when I ask if she wants to though so maybe I just need to ask her more often.
With having four kids that are 6 years old and younger it does come with challenges. I never feel like I have enough hands and there is always something to do or someone to attend to. Nursing Jonny takes up a lot of the day and when she is sleeping and I get a break to eat or pee, Bergen usually wants to play a game or Lenny wants to read a book. It is challenging meeting everyones needs and then the mom guilt comes in for not spending time with each kids as much as I should but we are trying! Charley is so sweet and quiet that her needs are often met last which I then feel bad about as well. Bergen and Lenny are good at getting me attention when they want it which is a lot of the day so that is challenging as well. It will just take some time to find a new routine and pattern for our little family.
