We stayed at the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar Resort and it was beautiful! It is right on the ocean with sandy beaches, infinity pools, good food and huge rooms! We arrived a few days early and were able to explore around a bit before everyone got there. We found the gym, a nice grocery store where we ended up buying our breakfast each morning and went to a cooking class one day! There are about 5 different restaurants at the resort, so the first night we tried a Mexican restaurant and got some fried Panella cheese to share and the mocajete (sort of like fajitas). They were super yummy!
My amazing sister Rachelle took care of Charley the whole week for us while we were gone! Each day she would send us pictures of Charley. It looked like she had a blast playing with her cousins and being in such a huge house with lots of toys! She was in heaven!
The next day we got up pretty early since we were still on East Coast time and got some breakfast at the little grocery store, then took the shuttle into town. We wanted to go see the Lands End arch and get some souvenirs. Spencer's main goal in going into town was to find the most hole-in-the-wall taco place and get some really authentic tacos. Lucky for him, they were everywhere! We found this lady selling them out of the back of her van so naturally we ordered some for a second breakfast! Spencer got the cactus and steak tacos. They were really good!
We walked along the pier where they have tons of little shops to buy souvenirs. We got a cute Mexican dress for Charley, some real Mexican vanilla (they try to trick you and put water and alcohol in the ingredients, so you really have to dig to find the 100% goodness), a pretty bowl for my sister and a big park blanket. The Marina was beautiful! We then took a water-taxi out to see the famous arch and Lovers Beach. It is whale season right now, so on our way out there we saw a few whales, so our driver took us over to where they were. We got to see them splash out of the water a few times and flap their tails up close! It was really cool. After our water taxi ride, our driver dropped us off at the local beach and we hung out for a few hours and relaxed in the sun.
Another taco place that a local recommended to us for lunch!:)
Charley up-date! Her hair got really curly in the humidity in South Carolina!
View from our room!
After we got back from town, we walked around and watched the sunset and then ate at one of the nicer restaurants called Pitahayas. The food and presentation was excellent! I got the salmon and Spencer got this amazing pineapple, coconut rice with shrimp plate.
The next morning we got up early again to watch the sunrise. It was such a beautiful morning watching it rise over the ocean.
Then we had a pool day and relaxed most of the day. We rotated between going down by the ocean and then going up to the pools. Such hard decisions when your on vacation!:)
Charley still loving life in South Carolina!
That day most of his co-workers arrived, so we went into town to eat at this cute little restaurant for dinner. There were bands playing Mexican music, lots of Pina Coladas and amazing food! I got the steak fajitas and we shared some coconut shrimp. I don't kid when I say that we literally had tacos and/or fajitas EVERY day ALL day!
Another relaxing day reading my book by the pool.
The next night, his company had a dinner cruise that they took us on. We went back to the Marina in town and took a dinner boat out to see Lands End Arch again. There were more whales that we saw, lots of chicken tacos and yummy drinks! We might have also had a dance party on the way back to the Marina:)
It was hard to get a good picture of the whale, but this is part of her back. You can't tell from the picture, but these animals are HUGE! I had no idea until I saw them in real life.
Saturday morning Spencer woke up early and went deep-sea fishing with a few co-workers while I relaxed at the beach all day. They were out from 7am-3pm! Spencer said it was pretty boring most of the time, but luckily he had his friends to talk to and chat it up. BUT they did catch a huge Marlin fish! They gave half the fish to the guys that took them out on the boat and the other half they gave to a nearby restaurant to cook up for us. We went back that night and they had chips and salsa, the marlin fish all cooked up and some rice and veggies for us! The fish tasted more chewy like a pork chop than anything, but it was a fun experience! I got a panini (since I couldn't look at another taco) instead since you aren't supposed to have marlin when your pregnant. I did try a piece though just to see what it tasted like.
Sunday was our last day, so we walked around the resort for a while before we had to say good-bye. This trip was such a fun vacation and nice to just relax! I was able to read a whole book while we were here and read a whole People magazine which I haven't done in a long time:) Thank you Spencer for working so hard so that we can go on these fun vacations. I love listening to him work everyday in our bedroom and listening to him be on calls with his clients. He really is so good at sales and working with other people!
