life from the I-phone

We went to the Prospect Park Carousel with some friends and Charley absolutely loved it! She had the biggest smile the whole time and loved riding the horse! I got a really cute video of her laughing when we started to go!

This girl is starting to notice her reflection in the mirror! It's so cute to watch her grow and learn new things. It's almost daily I find that she is discovering something new and trying something different. It's such a fun stage!
I posted this on Instagram, but Charley loves pushing our laundry basket around the apt. We don't have room for a actual toy pusher and she was pushing this small wire basket around for a while but she was bending over way far to do it. I pictured her with back problems when she was older so I looked around the apartment for something where she could actually stand and push while walking. The laundry basket was perfect and she loved it!
A few days ago we went to the pool with some friends and then had lunch on the water with the Statue of Liberty as our view! It was a gorgeous day and truly felt like one of those hot, amazing, happy summer days.
Charley loves her daddy!
Spencer went to the first BYU game of the season which happened to only be about 3 hours away in Connecticut. Him and a few friends took the day off work Friday and drove up to watch it. They first stopped at what is known to be the best pizza in the U.S. called Frank Pepe's, but he thought DiFara's here in Brooklyn is better. Charley and I stayed back, but treated ourselves to Ample Hills Creamery. Such goooooood ice cream! Charley loved it too.
My friend Lizzie is an amazing writer! She has a blog here and she recently wrote an article about leaving her 7 year old son home for short periods of time to help him gain a little more independence. Anyway, this was big news here and she has been on multiple TV shows, radio shows and they flew her and her son out to LA last weekend. I watched her kids one day for her and we had lots of fun at the library and the playground. We walked around like this and this kids loved it! I also got a few weird stares and one guy ask me if they were all mine!
You can never be too careful...
We have been going to the pool a lot this summer and this last weekend we tried out a new pool in Red Hook which turned out to be amazing! It has an awesome splash pad area for toddlers and it's only about a foot deep. Charley LOVES it! She can crawl around the water with her head poking out and splash around all she desires! The NYC pools are a little on the strict side with how they do things and you can't bring in any electronics or cameras to the pool area. So I snapped a few pictures of Charley and her friend, Violet before we went inside.
The pools are free here which is nice, but the rules are crazy... like you can't wear a shirt unless it's white, no floaties or lifejackets on kids, no toys and water toys allowed, you have to shower before you enter (and I mean *shower*, get super wet and freezing). I tried to just do a little bird bath while holding Charley the last time and the lady made me go back in and get all the way wet! Anyway, crazy rules, but super fun place to play!
Smoothie date with Daddy!
I am so thankful for my friends out here! I have gotten to know a really fun group of girls through church and our neighborhood. My friend Kari threw a belated birthday for me on our roof with some twinkle lights, cake bites, blankets and food! It was a fun night with the girls sans kids.
As you can see we conquered our bucket list this summer! We have done everything we wanted to do (except for going to get food at the Arepa Lady in Queens... but we will soon!). It has been such a fulfilling, fun-filled, busy summer!
Every Labor Day there is a West-Indies parade. It is supposedly linked with a LOT of crime and violence for some reason. Spencer and I were debating whether we should go since we heard it is crazy packed with people, really loud speakers everywhere and lots of violence. We decided to go check it out for a little bit and Spencer wanted some jerk chicken too! After we spent the morning at the Red Hook Pool, we rode our bikes up there to check it out. As we were approaching I saw about 100 policeman all standing in a line. They were given instructions on where to go stand and what to do. It was kind of insane! I wish I would have taken more pictures of the half-naked ladies, but we were literally there for about 3 seconds and then I left because it was a whole lotta crazy and Charley was half asleep on my bike!:)
P.S. My sister Bailey does the funniest snap-chats with her newborn JD!:)
