Birthday weekend

8.21.2014

So this last weekend I turned 28! It's kind of fun having your birthday on a Sunday because you get to celebrate the whole weekend and not just one day! So that is exactly what we did. We made a birthday weekend celebration out of it and partied Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Spencer took the day off work Friday and we went to the Bronx Zoo. We both had been wanting to go and it was a perfect weekend for it. This zoo is amazing!! It is HUGE but is still walkable and there is every animal imaginable (except hippos which Spence was a little disappointed since they are one of his favorite) Charley wasn't too much into the animals, but the ones she did see she loved! She got up really close to a colorful peacock and loved it!:)
This picture does not do it justice but this tortoise was HUGE!!! They live about 200 years and weigh 500 pounds. It was about 4 feet long too. Crazy BIG!
My favorite were the Gorillas. I could watch them for hours! Spencer and Charley were long done with them and had moved on and I stayed and watched them for a while. I think they are just so human like. It's fascinating to watch them and see just how similar they are and the things they do that humans do as well. (like how the mother is sleeping and just before that she was rubbing something off her eyelid like we do)
There is a monorail that you can ride too and takes you across the zoo to see more parts of land with animals that you can only see on the monorail. This is where we saw the elephants and tigers!
Such a fun day at the zoo! That night we got a baby-sitter and Spencer took me out to dinner and dessert. It was a perfect night! He had reserved a really nice place in the meat-packing district called "Spice Market". It is owned by the famous chef, Jean Georges, who owns restaurants around the world. The restaurant itself is amazing inside. Most all the decorations, furniture and building itself were imported from around the world. It's an asian-fusion place so there are a lot of things from Thailand. We both got the tasting menu which had 10 courses that they brought out at different times. It was really good and sooo flavorful!
After dinner we went to SoHo for some yummy ice cream! There is a place called "Big Gay Ice Cream" that we have been wanting to try and it did not disappoint! It was so yummy and the crazy thing is that it is soft-serve ice cream. Usually I am not a fan of soft-serve but this stuff is so good. Spencer got the Salty Pimp and I got a pretzel one where they roll the ice cream in salted pretzel bits and then dip the whole thing in chocolate. YUM!! We walked over to Washington Square Park to eat and people watch.
Saturday we went to the Brooklyn Flea Market (another bucket-list item we have been wanting to go to). It's pretty much a glorified second hand store and antique store outside. They have some really cool things and lots of food vendors so we walked around for a bit and then grabbed some food.
Then Sunday rolled around and I was spoiled once more! I woke up to sticky notes all around our apartment with cute things that Spencer had wrote about me! He had gotten up in the middle of the night and put them around the apartment! Super sweet! Then I got to open a few presents while he made me breakfast and that night he made me dinner! It was a fun, relaxing day. We had my favorite bran muffins for breakfast and he tried out a new recipe for dinner. It was a chicken and veggie galette that turned out really really good! I am so grateful for such a sweet and thoughtful husband. He knows that I like to celebrate birthdays and even though he doesn't like to as much.. he still makes it a point to humor me for the day and make me feel special and loved!

Soaking up the last bit of July

8.09.2014

July was a good month. We went on lots of fun vacations and mini adventures here in New York. This summer has been a very mild summer and it has been amazing. We have loved it because it's not too hot to go outside and play. Here are a few things we have been up to.
This little girl loves to take anything out of everything! If she sees a bin or a bucket or a trash can.. it's emptied in .3 seconds.

She is loving brushing her teeth these days like her Papa.
I went to an Ingrid Michaelson concert with some good friends a few nights ago and it was amazing! I love Ingrid and her music. She is a really good performer and this one in Central Park didn't disappoint. She had so many guest singers that came on like Darren Criss from Glee, one of the original singers from Journey, and singer Eric Hutchinson. On her last song Taylor Swift and Karlee Kloss even joined the stage. It was a fun girls night all around.
Love watching her sleep.
This girl cracks me up! Her helmet is still too big for her so she rides around holding it up above her eyes so she can see. It's pretty cute!
And as always, some playground fun! This one was a new playground called Harmony at the park. It had a sand box, slash pad and 2 swing sets and tons of things to climb up/in/on.
She is learning how to go down the slide all by herself! Such a big girl.
And yoga as usual...
