So I surprised Spencer with a staycation to Governors Island for his birthday! I had booked us a yurt there a few months earlier and set it up with Jennifer to watch our girls overnight so we could have a getaway! I just told him to meet me at our place Friday around 3pm and I would take him where we needed to go. I packed a small bag and he didn't even know we were staying the night somewhere. We took the train to Wall Street and had dinner at a steakhouse, grabbed some ice cream and then took the ferry over to Governors Island. We checked into our little yurt and watched the sunset over the Statue of Liberty. It was such a beautiful and relaxing night. The next day I slept in while Spencer did yoga outside and then we checked out and went to get brunch. It was one of the best brunches I have had! It was called the Smith and we each got a yummy dish to share. It was the perfect getaway for his birthday! Spencer is such an amazing person, father, husband, Bishop and worker. He is stretched thin with church, family and work but he prioritizes so well and manages everything gracefully. He is able to leave the office (the first to leave) to be home for dinner since he knows that is important. He is one of the hardest workers I know and does what he needs to be successful with his job and side projects he has. He comes home, puts his phone away and is present with his family. He takes care of his girls so well and never complains about the endless dishes that are left when he gets home. He loves spending time with his girls before bedtime which usually ends in a game or two of "hey, you get back here" and lots of tickets on the bed. The girls just adore him and love when he gets home so they can play rough and have some daddy time. Spencer has been doing such a wonderful job at being Bishop as well. It is a really hard and taxing calling. It is 24 hours and never ending.. there is always something to do, but he manages it really well and is able to do a lot on Sundays and one other day during the week. He puts people first and does so much to help the church and others around him.
I could not have asked for a better team-mate. Spencer is always willing to help out, pitch in and do what needs to be done. He is a problem solver and go-getter and gets things done quick and painless! Two years ago he made a goal to get up at 5am to be able to get a workout in and scripture study/work and he has kept that up. He definitely needs less sleep than me but I am amazed at his ability to consistently get up and get work done.
Happy Birthday LOVE! We love you so much!!
