January- homeschool, 24 hr. staycation, museums and kid-dates

1.30.2019

Our January was so fun crafting, homeschooling, baking, going outside and visiting museums. This month actually went by quickly which is always so nice because some January's go so slowly! This was our first month doing homeschool and it was a learning curve. The hardest part was trying to figure out what to do with Lenny which I teach Charley and Bergen. It was a lot of fun planning and building a curriculum for those two, but Lenny just wanted to be right in the middle of everything and it was a bit tricky to make everyone happy. We found a happy medium as time went on and I would just have to have some busy toys for Lenny while I worked with Charley and Bergen. We can usually get all the school work done in an hour that we need to do for the day. We usually always have math, language arts and then switch with handwriting, writers workshop and science. We also do calendar each day and say a morning mantra. I have love having Charley home and being with her! Her and Bergen play so well together and have been getting along so well since she has been home. I am really loving this stage in life and our home is happy. :)
A few weeks ago my good friend Raquel texted and asked if I wanted to join her in the New York City Opera. It was amazing! I loved watching it (Carmen) and listening to the beautiful singing! Such  a place to be too.. everyone was dressed SUPER nice like in prom dresses!
I am training for a spring marathon and so I am doing lots of running at the track in Red Hook. Many mornings start at 5:30am which is hard, but feels so good to get done afterward! My body has been feeling so good this training cycle and I am feeling very blessed.
We also spent some time at the Brooklyn Children's Museum and the Manhattan Museum of Art. They are two of our favorites and really bring out the girls' creativity and imagination.
Spencer and I had an amazing 24 hour staycation! We did a swap with the Murphy's and spent the night in Manhattan away from the girls. We went to eat at a really good Peruvian restaurant and then went to a comedy show that night. Afterward our good friends from California were visiting so we met up with them for ice cream. The next morning I ran around Central Park while Spencer did a workout and then we went to brunch at Jacob's Pickles with our friends, Casey and Ashley. It was really good to catch up with them! After brunch Spencer and I went to the most amazing spa near Central Park and it was so relaxing! We felt sooo relaxed the rest of the night. There were so many different types of saunas you could go into, a rooftop pool and other pools with jets. There was a sleeping room where I took a nap, a mediation room and a UV room where you could sunbathe. It was amazing!!! And we will definitely be going back. On our way back home, we stopped and got a smoothie and then took the train back to our babies. It was the perfect getaway!
I was able to take each of the girls on a date this last week too! They each earned a date from a sticker chart they were doing. Bergen chose to go to the Painted Pot and paint something. Afterward, we got some ice cream and she was so cute.. after she got some ice cream she asked if we could take one home for Charley. It was fun to go out with her one-on-one. I wish we could do it more!
For Charley's date, she chose to go to the American Girl store. She picked our some earrings for her doll and PJ's. She was in awe at the store! It is HUGE and has so many different dolls and accessories! Afterward we got a little treat and picked one up for Bergen too:)
We saw Dear Even Hansen (it was my gift to Spencer for Christmas) and it was sooo good!! We loved it so much. The music, the story, the acting.. everything! Definitely a favorite.
We also re-did our closet which we love!! Spencer really wanted to make it more functional and found a site where you can design the closest you want and then they just ship all the pieces and you put it together. Once it was shipped, we hired someone to come instal it for us and we LOVE it! There is so much room it's amazing!!
