PARIS!!! Yes we took the girls and went international for 9 days and it was a blast!! The weather was perfect (70's) and we just planned a few things a day which made each day relaxing and fun. I was so impressed with the girls through this trip. They were champs! Charley walked about 5 miles with us each day. Lenny napped and ate on the go every day and Bergen said "Bonjour" and "Merci" to everyone we met. They were good on the trains and exploring the city. We really had such an amazing time. And the food was divine! I loved the croissants and baguette. We got about 3 different almond croissants a day and at least 2 baguettes a day. Always one for breakfast and one for lunch. We had crepes, french onion soup, Angelina hot chocolate (so good!!), macaroons, European chocolate, the best falafel I have ever had!, and lots of pastries and treats. We explored different parts of Paris, took the girls to different playgrounds and let them ride the many carousels around the city. When we arrived we went straight to our home that we were staying in (through Home Exchange) and everyone took a nap. Then we head out for the day and went and did a tour with a local that we had set up. We walked around and were able to ask her questions and see some sites.
All of my pictures got a little out of order so I will write down what we did each day and then try to explain some of the pictures. On Wednesday, we all slept in till about noon and then went to the Notre Dame and went inside. It was beautiful inside with all the stained glass and prayer candle tributes. We didn't realize we had to reserve a different place to go up to the towers so we ended up doing that another day. After going inside we met another local for a tour. This was a walking food tour which was fun. The first thing we did was walk an above ground railroad. It was like the NYC version of the high line called the Coulee Verte. This was a favorite of mine and so pretty from up above. We then tried some different baked pastries, chocolate, cheese, oysters and macaroons. Afterward we took the train up to Montmarte and walked up the hill to the Sacre Coeur Basilica. This was one of our favorites. The view of the city from on top of the mountain is beautifuland the Basilica itself is gorgeous. There is a carousel at the bottom that we let the girls ride. We actually thought it was free and let them ride it a few times before we saw that we had to pay. Whoops! On Thursday we took the train out to Versailles. It was a gorgeous and HUGE mansion where the King lived. The grounds are so big we rented a golf cart to take around to see everything. There are so many gardens and smaller chateaus to visit as well. It's just amazing to me how people lived! These mansions were so big and grand, it was pretty incredible. There was a hallway of art from different battles fought that Spencer really liked. It went through a lot of wars and battles way back in history, many of them from Napoleon's time. After Versailles we went over to the Temple since they are really close. We went to the Visitors Center where I was able to feed Lenny and we let the girls play by the fountains. It's always fun to visit the temple when we travel places. After the temple we stopped at a crepe place and got some yummy sweet and savory crepes. They were really good. My sweet crepe was a homemade salted caramel and warm apples!
