72 Hour Emergency Kits

2.27.2015

One of my New Years Resolutions this year was to get our 72 hour kits made. I decided to start this goal early since baby #2 was coming soon and I probably wouldn't have time later, so I hopped right on it and made them! It was a very overwhelming process but fun to do. It is also pretty expensive! These kits end up being about $500 total for everything! I know the initial putting together is a lot harder since now all I will have to do is maintenance each year with the food, so I am glad I got the bulk of it done. My sweet friend, Ashley is a nurse and had made an awesome First Aid kit, so I had her send me the word document list she had made. I followed her list for our First Aid kit and then got on Pinterest to find a list for adult packs and list for a toddler and infant kits as well. I figure I will most likely have a toddler and newborn these next 10 years, so better have some things they would need instead of just adult kits. After searching list after list and making my own list, we made a 45 minute drive to Wal-Mart to buy all our stuff. It was a pretty hectic day and we waited in the checkout line for about 45 minutes after getting all our stuff, but we got the bulk of it there which I know was cheaper than anywhere else. The rest of the odds and ends, I ordered form Amazon and got at Target.
So after a month of compiling everything and buying bags to put it all in, we have a car 72 hour kit, a First Aid kit, 2 adults 72 hour kits, a toddler 72 hour kit and an infant 72 hour kit! Also... it was pretty amazing how much stuff I already had laying around the house! Here is our list for the First Aid Kit

Spencer joked through the whole process that he hopes we use it so our efforts don't go to waste! I am just glad we have something in case we ever need to use it. Even though it was pretty expensive to get everything, I am glad we are prepared!

  1. What a great project you have completed. It must feel good to be prepared "just in case". They look really good and thorough. You put alot of time and work into this and it shows. GREAT JOB!
