Each summer we make a list of things we want to do around New York. This summer we had a list of things we had already done but wanted to revisit and a few things that were new. We were actually able to do everything on our list (thank you Saturdays!) and even hit up a few things that I wanted to do, but didn't make the list cut. We went to Rockaway Beach with a few friends. I had actually just finished running 14 miles and I hurried and came home and Spencer made an ice bath for me and then made me breakfast. I hurried and got ready and then we all drove to the beach. It is pretty easy to get to and has a really good arepa place by the beach. We also had a coconut smoothie which makes me crave one so bad just thinking about it!
We also rode our bikes one Saturday around Governors Island. I love this place so much!! It doesn't have tourists and you have to take a ferry to get to the island so not a ton of people go. It is only a 10 minute ferry ride from Brooklyn so it's not hard at all to get to! We take our bikes when we go since there are no cars allowed on the island. When we went this time, we biked around the island and stopped at the slide area where there are about 5 different slides of different heights and the kids ZOOM down them so fast! Then there is a hammock grove which is fun to relax on hammocks. We had some lunch and played in a recently developed junkyard playground. Then we went over to this garden/compost area which is HUGE and pet some goats and chickens and learned how they use compost and gardens on the island, which was pretty fascinating to learn about. People are so resourceful!
For my 30th birthday this year Spencer planned a few fun things for us (and me!) He took the entire day off which was super sweet of him! In the morning, Spencer made theres yummy muffins for me and then we rode our bikes to the Brooklyn Bridge Piers where they have this really cool splash pad! The girls loved playing in the splash pad and probably could have the entire afternoon. After a few hours, we rode back home and Spencer had made a few appointments for me to go to solo. I went and got an hour massage and then got a manicure and pedicure done. Afterward, I met back up with Spence and the girls at this yummy Mexican place pretty close to our apartment. We had some good food and then went back to a berry crisp and ice cream at home. It was a perfect day!
Picnics, date nights, swimming lessons and Curious George

For Spencer birthday I got us tickets to go see the Killers! It is probably Spencer all-time favorite band. They were playing in Connecticut about 3 hours away, so we asked our good friends to watch the girls for the night while we went to the concert. It was such a fun night and such a good concert! Brandon Flowers has such an amazing voice! We loved it.
For Pioneer Day, the Primary put on a Pioneer Day Picnic. Since I am Primary President, I got to plan and execute it this year! It was a lot of fun and a great turn out. We had tons of watermelon and everyone brought a picnic lunch. Then we had butter making (shaking glass jars of cream), whirligig making, and 3 legged races. It was such a fun day in the park with the people we love!
More pictures from my phone: Bergen loves to ride Charley's bike around the apartment (helmet and all), my best friends all got together in Washington and I wasn't able to go so they face-timed with me one night. It made me miss them so much!! Next year for sure! We also had a fun date night with one of our favorite couples that was here for the summer doing internships. We went to Del Frisco's Steakhouse and I got the best steak of my life! NO joke! It was probably one of my favorite/best meals ever. The steaks there are so good and you can't go wrong with any of the side dishes. Charley rocked this summer with swimming lessons. She did so well in her first class and was excited for it every time! Most of the kids in her class were a bit scared of the water, so we probably could have had her do a more advanced class, but she still loved it! We had another date night where we picked up some yummy Vietnamese Pho to go and rode our bikes up to the park to listen to the Lumineers. They were playing a concert in the park, so we got a babysitter and dashed. It was such a nice, relaxing night away with my man.
Each Saturday we try to go out and do something fun. One Saturday we went to the Brooklyn Zoo where the girls loved feeding all the animals. Another Saturday we went to Summer Streets. It's a really cool thing they do in Manhattan where they shut down a ton of different streets and have different booths along the streets going up to the Central Park. I had actually ran the streets earlier in the morning and told Spencer about it, so we took the girls later in the day. They had tons of free things to do and eat! We also made a sunshine package for our dear cousin who is going through another round of chemotherapy. He has cancer (again) and as disheartening it is to find out (after you were told it was all gone), he is the strongest, most bravest man I know! We are rooting for you Eric!! Charley helped me pick out all the yellow things we could find to send to him and he loved getting our little box of sunshine.
