too told

1.28.2014

I like to say it's "too told" (for too cold) because that's how my nephew used to say it when he was little and it was so cute! Just a little family joke.... anyway.. I have been a little down this last week since it has been hard to get out with Charley and do things... hard to run in the negative temperatures and hard to stay warm even in our apartment. Staying inside has been the only option, but the problem here is that NYC apartments are tiny! Our living room is our kitchen and Charley's play room. Charley's bedroom has our only closet. Our bedroom is Spencer's office... do you see the dilemma here? Everything serves more than one purpose and I can actually only do 8 squat lunges from one end to the other! EIGHT! So needless to say, I took matters into my own hands and decided to sign up for a few classes to do with Charley. I wasn't going to do this till spring, but we are going for it! Here is our schedule and I hope she likes it!

Monday- Shambhala Baby Yoga
Tuesday- City Sounds Music Together for babies and toddlers
Wednesday- Babies and Books story time at the library
Thursday- Baby and Me Swimming class

I think I'm more excited than she is, but I'm sure she will just enjoy tagging along!:)

weekend shenanigans

1.27.2014

So people ask if we have adjusted to New York yet and I tell them not really. I still feel like we are on vacation. We always try to do something on the weekends and get out of our apartment to mix things up. It's been hard for me to get out because it's been SO COLD, so it's nice to bundle up and get out with Spencer on the weekends. 2 weeks ago Spence was out of town so my sister-in-law came down from Boston to stay with me and Charley. It was so fun to have her and site-see a bit and eat GOOD food! She loves food and finding good places to eat, so I was all for eating 4 or 5 meals a day! (you can do that when your breast-feeding and training for a marathon!)
We walked around the Botanical Gardens which are going to be gorgeous in the spring!
This is crazy! These flowers are KNITTED! They were really cool close up.

Brunch (or second breakfast) one day!
The last night we ordered take out to be able to put Charley to bed at a decent hour and I had to take a picture of our feast! We had Jamaican/ Caribbean food and it was delicious!
One morning we got up pretty early and took the subway into the city to try the famous Cronut at Dominique Ansel's Bakery. They did not disappoint. So every month he switches the flavor and this month it was a Peanut Butter Rum flavor that was divine!
They said the bakers start at 2:00AM!!! to get the cronuts ready for when they open.
Charley fell asleep while we were in line. We were pretty lucky.. it was a really slow day. Usually you have to show up at 6am to get a cronut, but we got there at 8am and only had to wait 30 minutes.
 the line..

Last weekend we went into Chinatown and tried the famous Tasty Hand Pulled Noodles. You can literally see the guys in the back making the noodles and pulling them! The food was super good.. I think I liked it a little better than Spencer did. There wasn't room to sit and eat it, so we went to a nearby Bubble Tea Cafe and ate it there with our Bubble Teas.
Then we went to Central Park and watched the ice-sculptures sculpt .
and some random pics of Charley..

And lastly, on Saturday we went into Chelsea to try some Venezuelan food. I LOVE LOVE Venezuelan arepas and had to try some. Chelsea is a cute, hipster part of town that has some amazing restaurants. I want to go back and try some more! We got some Venezuelan sweet corn pancakes and arepas that were soo good! We also went to the local YMCA and went swimming with Charley. She loved it!
And that night, our friends watched Charley while she slept and Spence and I hit up some pizza and a Broadway show! We had heard good things about "Once", so Spencer got tickets 50% off at a ticket booth and we went. It was REALLY good! I would recommend it! It's a cute love story with really good music!
Love this man of mine!

Yummy Granola!

1.26.2014

I wish I could take credit for this granola recipe, but I can't. I have been craving granola ever since we moved out here and was running with my friend Lizzie the other day (she's training for Boston too.. yay!) and I asked if she had a good recipe. She ALWAYS has good recipes and was the one that introduced me to a galette. So sure enough, she had a fabulous, yummy, healthy granola recipe that I made and love it! Here is the link to her website if you want to make it. You will not be disappointed.

Speaking of galettes... lets talk about these for a second. If you have not experienced a galette, you also need to make one! It is one of the most hearty, savory, heart happy, delicious food you will make! They may seem a little intimidating, but if you like butternut squash, carmelized sweet onions and sage try this

or just look at the 10 best savory galettes here and choose one that tickles your fancy! :) I'm making the pear, prosciutto, onion, blue cheese and walnut galette tomorrow!

Charley 0-6 months video

1.22.2014

So I have spent the last 3 weeks on this video and am so happy to be done with it. It was my first one, so bear with me! My friend had told me about how she compiled her daughters iPhone videos together for her 1-year birthday and I thought it was such a good idea! I decided to do her first 1/2 year in one video and then maybe I will do it again when she is a year old.. (we'll see!:) This video gave me so many problems but I am glad it's over with! I think I will stick to photography from now on, but it was fun to make!

Charley at 6 months!

1.19.2014

Our little girl is 6 months old! She is a super happy and smiley baby. She loves her Daddy! She has such a sweet spirit about her and loves to cuddle. She is very independent and always wants to feed herself and hold her bottle. She is very content laying on the floor playing with her toys and singing to herself. She wakes up from her naps happy and squealing/laughing. She is rolling around like crazy and almost sitting up. She loves her thumb. She love watching TV with dad. She loves her baths. She loves walking outside and is such a curious little girl. She loves to laugh and be tickled. She does NOT like the blender in the morning when I make my smoothies, but actually really likes the vacuum! She is starting to scoot around on her arms and elbows to reach for things.
I got my camera and a few props all set up to do a 6 month photo shoot, but when I turned on my camera the batteries were dead! I was so bummed.. so I guess my I-phone pics will have to do!
