Kauai!!

4.29.2012

Spencer and I traveled to Kauai for my spring break and it was AMAZING!! We had so much fun! The first 4 days we relaxed in the sun and went snorkling, paddle boarding, biking along the coast and relaxed at the beach! We got up with the sun and went down with the sun! It was very relaxing! It felt like the days lasted forever because we would get so so early and we didn't have technology (cell phones, computer, i-pod) to keep us entertained! One of our favorites spots was Queens Bath. It is this naturally made pool of made of lava rocks and water that comes over the rocks from waves. We snorkled at Tunnels Beach and Paddle boarded at Hanalei.

                                                                  Sea Turtles!!!

Here is the starting of our hike. The next 4 days we hiked the Napali Coast with our good friends Dave and Sarah! The coast is 11 miles long and at the end is a beautiful beach and "valley". The valley isn't really a "valley" that is wide open and hills, so I'm not sure why they call it that, but it's beautiful, green and there are tons of waterfalls! We camped on the beach, hiked around once we got to the beach and again, relaxed in the sun! The Napali Coast is one of the mosty beautiful places I have seen! There are also the most interesting people that I have seen that actually live there. They are perma-hippies who live off the land and just chill all day! They are pretty funny to talk to and carry on a normal (or not so normal) converstaion with!

Hiking along the trail. This is about the spot where we met our friend Adrian Avacado (no joke) who practices Thai massage and offered to give us one free of charge or for donation! He had crazy looking teeth, dreads down his back and was wearing a wrap around skirt! He was hiking back into town to pick up a few things before hiking back to his home on the beach! :)

Such a fun hike and beautiful place that we live!

The 'not so fun' part of owning a home

4.26.2012

Last August we bought a home! We couldn't be happier and absolutely LOVE our neighborhood and ward. There are always kids running around outside and it is such a safe and fun neighborhood. Our neighbors have been so great to help us out with anything and let us borrow so many tools and cooking ingredients! Now to give you a little background of what comes next.. our house is essentially built on a spring. Yes a huge lake is right under our neighborhood! Now luckily we just moved in and didn't have to deal with the initial basement flooding that happened to pretty much everyone.. but we have had some of our own problems that had taken a ton of work.. and $$!
About a month ago, we started noticing that our guest bedroom closet had this old water/musty smell. We knew there had been water damage there before, but we didn't know how much. Well looking more into this problem we found out that we need to put in a drain pipe that started in the closet and went all the way around the room, through our living room and into our kitchen where our sump pump is located! On top of that, Spencer had to dig a trench going from our backyard to the front yard and onto the street so the water had someone to go somewhere away from the house.

Spencer is such a hard worker and has been doing so much to save money. He dug the trench and the other day we bashed out the walls in the guest bedroom, tore down the sheet-rock and insulation and then spencer cut all the studs off! It is a crazy mess right now, but hopefully it will prevent water damage in the future!

On a happy note.. this was one of my student's reflection forms after getting in trouble for talking too much. He had to write what he did. This is his drawing of him and above it, it says "LOL" and then it says, "I lost my mind for a little bit and talked too much" :) My students crack me up!

Here are some before pictures of us ripping out our living room and guest bedroom! Hopefully it makes it back to one piece soon!

Here is why all of our stuff is!!! hallways, our bedroom and whatever and wherever we can fit things!:) ahh I hate messes, so this has been really hard for me to have things EVERYWHERE!!!

Easter, Ingrid and Birthdays!

4.25.2012

I hope the Easter Bunny was nice to everyone this year! We were actually in Hawaii (a post is coming soon) hiking, relaxing and enjoying the sun.. so we missed him! But despite our absence I still managed to decorate the house, which Spencer thought was crazy!:) But it's fun to decorate!

We also went to Ingrid Michaelson downtown one night! She is amazing!! Spencer was so sweet and surprised me with tickets a few months ago! I had e-mailed me him while I was at school and told him I found her concert online and wanted to go and when I got home that night he had a poem and tickets!:) It was too cute!

We also celebrated Lorie's baby, King's birthday! He turned one and so she threw him a circus themed birthday! It was super fun with games, popcorn a photo booth and all! King is such a cute little boy! They came over the other night and I was trying to help him to walk for the first time.. he is sooo close!!! :)

Here are two video's of our dear friend Ingrid!!!
